Stratford-upon-Avon: Castle 4-6-0 No 5080 'Defiant' about to leave Stratford-upon-Avon on 'The Shakespeare Express' on 15 April 1990. The train was banked out of the station by King 4-6-0 No 6024 'King Edward 1'.
Blue Anchor: GWR 7828 'Odney Manor' leaves Blue Anchor on the West Somerset Railway with the last train of the day from Bishops Lydeard to Minehead. There is nothing much to say that this is not the 1950s, certainly the station 'furniture' is GWR, only 2020s casual dress code gives the game away.
Ormskirk: Merseyrail has begun operating the Stadler 777s in pairs in passenger service. On 17th July 2024 777019 and 777026 were on Ormskirk line duties, seen here almost filling the platform at Ormskirk before returning to Liverpool Central.
Polmont: 385011 and 385033 leave Polmont with the 14.54 from Dunblane to Edinburgh on 17 July 2024.
South Kenton: Avanti West Coast class 390 Pendolino, not far now from its destination at Euston, speeding south past South Kenton, London Overground/Underground Bakerloo Line, at 15.48 on Saturday, 20th April 2024. This station is an excellent vantage point for photographing trains on the main line.
Treverrin Tunnel: 47001, a Plymouth Laira loco for a while, is seen heading down from the tunnel towards Lostwithiel with 30 loaded clay hoods for Fowey in January 1978. This was back in the day before tree growth destroyed this and many other photo locations.
Preston: Brand new and gleaming, and also rather unexpected as it was eighty two minutes early, 807003 passes through Preston working from Darlington to Oxley via Edinburgh as empty stock on 17th July 2024.
Thornton-in-Craven: This bridge at Thornton-in-Craven did not carry the Colne to Skipton line, which closed in 1970, but a branch from that to Thornton Quarry. This closed around the 1920s but despite that there are substantial remains. Just to the left of this bridge over Old Road the trackbed enters a tunnel [[88627]] into the quarry itself. To the right, a short distance away, is the site of the old exchange sidings.
Kennington Junction: A view of the signal box at Kennington Junction in 1967, as a three-car DMU passes by.
Killin Junction: This is the site of the removed bridge which carried the Killin Railway over the A85 at Lix Toll. The view looks north. The former tollhouse is the white painted building. Toll collection ceased in the 1880s, around the time the railway opened, when the county council took over responsibility for the road maintenance.
Largs: A busy scene at Largs in an undated shot thought to have been taken in 1973. At that time the station still had four platforms available and two centre roads for rolling stock storage.
