Brownqueen Tunnel: 1050 'Western Ruler' heads 1E21, the 1020 Penzance to Leeds service on 27 December 1974, leaving Brownqueen Tunnel with the next stop Bodmin Road. 1050 would work to Plymouth for an engine change with probably a Leeds Holbeck based Class 45 Peak going forward but sometimes a Western Region Class 46 or 47. Shortly after this picture was taken we sat in the woods by the River Fowey having lunch all eating turkey sandwiches. There were some very long gaps in the train service back in those days on the Cornwall main line.

Southampton Terminus (for Docks): It is 11 June 1963 and the long serving USA 0-6-0 tanks are being replaced in Southampton Docks by 0-6-0 diesel shunters. Here is one of the newcomers, D2993, a diesel electric Ruston-Hornsby, later Class 07.

Buckenham: 755413 calls at remote Buckenham with a Norwich to Lowestoft service on 15th July 2024. Many trains pass without stopping but a solitary passenger alighted from this one. The nearest substantial settlements to this station are Strumpshaw and Lingwood, which have their own station at Lingwood on the direct line to Yarmouth. Buckenham appears to just service the RSPB reserve and a few scattered cottages and only recorded 354 passenger entrance/exits in 2022/23.

South Acton: Zoom lens view from Bollo Lane level crossing along the freight-only link from the Hounslow Loop towards the London Overground with South Acton station in the distance, at 15.29 on Saturday, 20th July 2024. The LO line from Richmond, which also crosses Bollo Lane by level crossing, can be seen coming in on the right. This link line was used until 1940 by a Broad Street to Kew Bridge service and sometime ago, a Basingstoke to Colchester service via this and the North London Line was started but didn't last long. I cannot find any information about its dates.

Acharn Siding: The concrete culvert of the Allt na Lice, west of Acharn Siding, is seen in a view looking south. The Killin Railway was raised high over the culvert on an embankment. The Gaelic word for slab/flagstone in the name of the stream has been rendered as Lix.

Acton Grange Junction: 40155 is seen amongst the overhead line clutter at Acton Grange Junction heading from Warrington to Northwich light loco in 1984. It was much better photographing here on the Chester bound lines with no overhead wires. In those days there were many freights heading for Stanlow and other locations passing here.
