Didcot Parkway: DBC 66131 heading the Morris Cowley to Southampton East Docks through Didcot on 26th September 2024. Reporting number 4Ø39 passing here at 1112hrs slowly approaching Platform 3. It has to be said, this must be one of the longest freight trains on the network and given the contents of those wagons, no doubt will be worth a pound or two.
Fort William: Stanier Black 5 5407, at the head of the 'West Highlander', ready to depart for Mallaig on 18th August 1985.
Wigan Wallgate: Looking east at Wigan Wallgate towards the large, red brick, street level station building that dates from 1896 and was the third Wallgate station. The first, 1849 to 1865, lay immediately east of the tunnel beyond these platforms and the second covering the intervening years was sited roughly where this picture was taken from. Present day Wigan serves the Headbolt Lane (Kirkby) and Southport lines to the west and Manchester via Bolton or Atherton to the east with a frequent service of trains. 195010 draws forward as empty stock to layover briefly before shuttling back to Manchester Victoria.
Kincardine Ground Frame: In March 2003 the failure of 66068, which was working a train of empty HAAs to Kincardine PS to be loaded and taken to Longannet, has certainly brought out the crowds. The rescue locomotive is 66126 which removed the errant 66 and then propelled the wagons to the loading point which is behind the photographer who must admit to having forgotten how this was achieved.
Cowcaddens [Subway]: Cowcaddens Subway Station. In the background is Dundas Court, a former school.
Alexandra Palace: Alexandra Palace station (known as Wood Green until 1982) looking south from a W3 bus to Finsbury Park crossing the bridge to the north of the station at 16.26 on Sunday, 29th September 2024. 717018 is arriving with a service from Welwyn Garden City to King's Cross. Services to and from Hertford North were suspended on this day with replacement buses running.
Earn Viaduct [Strageath]: This bridge carries the road from Drummond Castle to Strageath Mill over the former Crieff branch about a quarter of a mile south of the River Earn. The immense bulk of this overbridge is quite a contrast to the other much more slender bridges more typical of the line. The view looks north.
Eastfield MPD: 37022, 08938 and other locomotives on Eastfield on 2nd October 1982. This is the view you had when starting your walk around the depot. 37022 had come up from Stratford depot, East London, in January 1981 to replace class 27 locos.
