Bredbury: The 100mph CAF DMUs look a little incongruous on all stations services around south Manchester, once the preserve of Pacers. Here 195102 pulls away from Bredbury, with a Sheffield to Manchester service, on 30th October 2024. The station appears to be one of the newer ones on the line but in fact opened in 1875. However it was substantially rebuilt and modernised in 1976. The footbridge is the only means of access to the Manchester bound platform.
Reston: 802212 calls at Reston with 9S13, the 1402hrs TPE service from Berwick to Edinburgh on 18th November 2024. Two and a half years after opening this huge station has been featuring in the news. Obviously intended to serve a wider area than just the tiny village of Reston, it is still very quiet. One person boarded this train, another alighted and there were just nineteen cars on the car park. Hopefully, numbers will pick up in time.
Dumfries: The new accessible footbridge at Dumfries, a mix of modern and traditional styles, is now operational. Seen here looking westwards on 16th November 2024.
Buchanan Street [Subway]: As an Outer Circle train departs from Buchanan Street, the recently disembarked passengers provide a good reference point to highlight the relatively small size of the rolling stock.
West Kirby: A shot of West Kirby station and signal box taken in 1992 with a couple of class 508 units visible.
Liverpool Lime Street: Contrasting front ends at the Lime Street buffers on 2nd November 2024. On the left, an Avanti Pendolino, newly arrived from Euston. Many of these Euston to Liverpool services are to go over to the new Class 807 'Evero' units, which had their first public run to Lime St on 11th November. On the right is a Transport for Wales Class 197 DMU from Chester, which will have worked here via Helsby and the reopened Halton Curve to Runcorn.
Carnforth: L&YR class 27 number 52322 on the demonstration line at Steamtown Carnforth in the late 1980s. This 1895 built L&Yr number 1300 (LMS 12322) is preserved on the East Lancashire Railway and is owned by Andy Booth. Its most recent overhaul was completed in 2021.
Aberdeen: Grab shot from the 14:52 LNER 1E25 service, of Freightliner 70009 on 6M84 for Carlisle New Yard waiting to follow on behind. This is usually hauled by a COLAS locomotive.
Strowan Tunnel: A little west of the removed culvert which carried the Crieff to Comrie line over the Balmenoch Burn is this footbridge over the burn. A previous incarnation of the footbridge consisted of a few logs, but this one is better built. The trackbed is out of shot off to the left in this view.
Doncaster: 66549 approaching Doncaster station with a loaded coal train, possibly from Rossington going to Drax, on 9th September 2003.
