Liff: J37 64620 came on The Scottish Rambler railtour at Dundee and headed up the Maryfield branch on Day 2 (090466). This proved pretty difficult for the old 0-6-0 in the atrocious weather and progress was exceptionally slow although it did eventually make it to Liff. This image was taken from the train during that protracted climb to Liff but I am unsure of the exact spot. All this slow progress, coupled with the earlier V2 failure, meant that the tour was already pretty late by the time we got on to the Inverbervie line, which proved even more troublesome than the Maryfield one. Eventually, after repeated attempts to recover from yet another stall, the venture was abandoned some way short of Bervie and the train returned to Montrose. A2 60532 'Blue Peter' set off for home through the darkness and, although it ran well, yet another delay occurred at Inverkeithing where there was a long wait whilst the A2 went off to bank a stalled diesel-hauled car sleeper up to the Forth Bridge.
