Orpington: 465162 just arrived at bay platform 8 at Orpington, in rain that turned into a few snow flurries, at 14.12 on Saturday, 23rd November 2024. Orpington was originally opened by the South Eastern Railway on 2nd March 1868 and rebuilt with 6 platforms in 1904. The line from Victoria via Bromley South as far as here was electrified by the Southern Railway in 1925. The station was further enlarged in the 1990s with the addition of bay platforms 7 and 8, built on the site of old carriage sidings and also used by Thameslink trains to Luton and Bedford.
Manchester Piccadilly: The two signals in the centre of the picture, on Platforms 2 and 3 at Piccadilly, cleared to green together with the platform indicators showing OFF, for two 15.03hrs departures. The Hadfield departure was ready first though and the 323 EMU can be seen pulling away. The Platform 3 indicator is still showing R for 'Right Away' as 221138 follows, with a Cross Country service for Bristol, on 30th October 2024.
Appleby East: Looking north from the old level crossing at Appleby East on 25th November 2024, you can clearly see where the county council have attempted to cover over the tracks on the road. The line runs into a headshunt which meets the link from Appleby West on the S&C but would have continued to Penrith on the old Eden Valley Railway before its closure in 1962. Photo [[31065]] shows this spot in 2010 before the level crossing gates were removed.
Carlisle: DRS 68004 on the rear of RHTT train (3J11) newly arrived at Carlisle from Maryport and about to depart towards Newcastle. 68024 was the other loco.
Glenfinnan: A December 1977 photograph of a Mallaig train, climbing away from Glenfinnan behind a Class 27 diesel.
Whalley: An 8F 2-8-0 trundles tender first through Whalley station, on its way from Blackburn to Clitheroe with the local pick up goods, on a misty, cold and damp February day in 1968. Whalley had closed on 10th September 1962, when passenger services ceased between Blackburn and Clitheroe, but reopened on 29th May 1994.
Comrie Viaduct: The two remaining arches of the Comrie Viaduct can be seen in the trees in this view. The viaduct crossed over the River Earn (right) to reach the village. The Water of Ruchill is at the bottom of the view. The two rivers meet out of shot off to the right.
St Margarets Shed: The corridor tender of pristine A4 Pacific No 60024 'Kingfisher' is prominent in this view as the loco is prepared for action at St Margaret's Shed on 28 September 1964.
