Burnmouth: At some point since Burnmouth station closed in 1962, the platforms and their shelters have been demolished. However, the building used as the Station Agent's house and Ticket Office still stands alongside the ECML on the south side, now in use as a private residence. This was the view, looking across the tracks from the overbridge, on 18th November 2024.
Trent Junction: The complex of junctions at Trent were very busy for freight at one time. However one could not cover all angles so was bound to miss trains when trying to photograph them. Most freight came to or from via Toton yard and took the Castle Donington route. Here we see 31186 and 31431 with a Immingham Lindsey block oil service heading for Albion near Dudley in January 1986. The vast majority of oil depots are now closed but back then there were many rail served. The 31s are taking the Castle Donington route .
Maryport: On the 23rd December 2024 156472 departs Maryport and prepares to switch back onto the correct line as it passes Mayport signal box whilst working the 1108 Carlisle to Barrow-in-Furness. Southbound trains have to cross over on approach the the station at Maryport to access the single platform before correcting themselves after the stop. Despite boasting a large station building in its heyday Maryport has only ever had the one through platform.
Bridge Street [Subway]: Unit 302 arrives at Bridge Street with an Inner Circle service on Boxing Day, 2024.
Aviemore Speyside: A then and now composite shot of Ivatt 2MT 2-6-0 46464 at Aviemore. The first in 1988 when the loco was in a sorry state and the second in 2024 when she returned to service.
Newcastle Central: After just over sixty years, Ashington is back on the destination boards at Newcastle, seen here at 12.24 on Tuesday, 17th December 2024. The line had originally closed on 2nd November 1964, but stayed open for freight and was reopened to passengers two days before I took this photo while reluctantly waiting to go home to London.
Tynreoch Viaduct: A view of the main part of the large bridge at Tynreoch - west side of the bridge. The view looks north.
Blackwell South Junction: Blackwell loading point was situated on the east side of the MML between Alfreton and Blackwell South Junction and in this shot from 2009 a train of empties from Worksop is arriving to be loaded.
