Duns: Apart from the yard being cleared of timber, and a new greenhouse appearing, the platform and trackbed area of Duns appears little changed since John Furnevel took a similar image in 2005 [[4284]]. The last passengers used this station in 1951 but freight continued until 1966.
Clunybridge Junction: Haymarket based 20s were hard to see, let alone photograph, when one lived in Essex. Thus a trip was arranged in May 1985 to Edinburgh on the overnight sleeper, then a hire car to head out to Fife. 20217 and 20221 were a very welcome sight heading back to Thornton Junction from Longannet at Cluny, not far west from Thornton Junction yard.
Woodacre Crossing: An early 2025 outing for the High Speed Measurement Train on 4th January. 43257 heads the set from Slateford to Crewe, seen passing Woodacre with 43277 on the rear.
Basford Hall Yard: New digital era dawns for train traffic control through Crewe. Passenger and freight trains are now benefitting from a once in a generation overhaul of the signalling system serving one of Britain's busiest railway junctions. [See news item.]
Maryport: A brief pause in the rain at Maryport, on Monday 23rd December 2024, as 156472 makes a short stop whilst working the 1108 Carlisle to Barrow-in-Furness. The recently installed signs on the platform tell the story of this historic part of the country.
North Pier [Tram]: 'HMS Blackpool', F736, on an illuminations tour at North Pier in 2010. This tram, and the 'Western Train', both continued to operate tours after the tramway was modernised, continuing right through to the 2024 season.
Boat of Garten: Ceremony at Boat of Garten on 23rd June 2024, marking the return of Ivatt Class 2 No.46464 to the Strathspey Railway.
North Blyth Alcan Terminal: 66736 is ready to depart from North Blyth with 6S45, the 06.35 to Fort William, on a bright March morning in 2014.
Tynreoch Viaduct: A view along the Tynreoch Viaduct. The bridge remains in use for farm access and carries the Dalchonzie to Lochearnhead footpath.
Tynehead: Goodbye Tynehead. A shot beyond the capabilities of my basic camera but a memory of the day on Friday 3rd January 1969, with D5070 calling with the 16.12 Edinburgh - Hawick. The oil lamps on the up platform are lit for the last time as the station was served by one train each way Monday - Friday only. In the gloom a few other people can be seen on the platform to say farewell as did I and a friend who had travelled on the train from Edinburgh. This was followed by a bracing walk to Pathhead for a bus to Dalkeith.
