Manchester Central: When this shot was taken in April 1969, Manchester Central only had a few weeks left before closure on 5th May. By this time the station only served Liverpool and Chester, the latter being the destination of the DMU in the shot.
Craigo: Network Rail has successfully demolished a bridge over the railway at Craigo Road, Marykirk, on the Aberdeen-Dundee line.
St Boswells Shed [2nd]: Closed to locos in 1959, St. Boswell's two road engine shed was quickly turned over to goods use, with the end doors bricked up. Later it went over to non-railway use and there is now a single vehicle access door in the end of the shed. The water tank however looks virtually unchanged, sixty plus years after the last loco departed. A van and truck hire firm now occupies the engine shed and site, this view taken on 19th November 2024.
March West Junction: 31187, with painted up green liveried 37216, approach March West Junction en route from Peterborough to Ipswich in May 1993. I recall 31187 as a Finsbury Park based locomotive back in 1974 but, like many, they moved around based at different depots. At this time 31187 was a March loco but also had a spell at Immingham as well. At one time there was a signalbox here and one could stand on the footbridge and listen to the bell codes.
Senhouse Dock Junction: Formerly the second of two busy docks at Maryport, Senhouse Dock was served by rail sidings on both sides which joined the mainline at Senhouse Dock Junction but it was transformed into a marina in 1990. On this dreary day in December 2024 there were plenty of sailing vessels docked.
Seaton Delaval: View towards Ashington from the new station at Seaton Delaval, on the second day of the reopened line, at 10. 48 on Monday, 16th December 2024. This was originally double track here with the new station on the site of the former lifted track towards Newcastle. The original station with two platforms and proper buildings, closed with the line in 1964 and now demolished, was just to the north, this side of the bridge in the background. A UK Railtours visit to the North Blyth freight branch, via the Morpeth to Bedlington line, travelled back to Newcastle this way, and on which I was a passenger, on 7th April 2018.
Erskine Ferry Slip: An extensive view west towards the Firth of Clyde was the order of this 1976 summer day, pictured from the Erskine Bridge as the PS 'Waverley' passed below.
St Fillans: The St Fillans Crocodile continues to preside over the empty trackbed of the Lochearnhead, St Fillans and Comrie Railway. This view looks east towards Dalchonzie just under a mile east of the former St Fillans station.
Stobs: The platforms and footbridge looking south at Stobs, on the occasion of a visit by the North British Railway Study Group in 2015.
