Stansted Airport: Stansted Airport, with a train for Liverpool Street, on 6th March 1992. The station opened almost a year earlier on 10th March 1991 as part of the expansion and development of the airport which had opened in August 1943.

Lauder: Any trace of Lauder station and goods yard has been built over since the railway closed in 1958. This is (as far as possible) a 2024 'Then and Now' comparison with image [[52205]] of BR 2MT 78049 shunting the yard at the time of closure.

Guide Bridge: 40152 is seen at Guide Bridge loco sidings in May 1984. By this time the Woodhead line had been shut a couple of years so this location was less busy as the freight traffic dwindled and loco changes from electric to diesel were a thing of the past.

Elizabeth Dock: Looking into Elizabeth Dock in Maryport on a damp December day as 2024 approaches its conclusion. In the 1850s sidings were installed on both sides of the dock but after the opening of Workington Port in 1927 traffic dwindled. In 2024 only a small number of fishing vessels still operate out of the dock see image [[63299]] and image [[86784]].

Cullercoats: My favourite station on the Tyne & Wear Metro, Cullercoats with its splendid footbridge, looking north and very atmospheric after dark, at 16.24 on Monday, 16th December 2024. The first station was opened by the NER on 27th June 1864 and closed when the line was realigned closer to the sea, with this replacement opening on 3rd July 1882 as part of the North Tyneside Loop. The last BR trains called on 10th September 1979, when the line and station were temporarily closed for conversion into the Metro system and reopened on 11th August 1980 with the first section between Haymarket and Tynemouth.

St Fillans: The St Fillans Crocodile used to welcome (is that the word?) passengers to St Fillans. It was on the north side of the line and would have been seen on the right hand side from a westbound train. Up ahead is an accommodation bridge which gave access to the Little Port Hill. The monster can still be seen from the neighbouring A85 and is regularly repainted.

Inverness: Inverness station on 28th December 1982 with 27021 and 27008 awaiting departure with the 10.40 to Aberdeen. At that time this working was usually double headed.
