Highley: EE Type 1 20048, and GWR 0-4-2T 1450, pass the Engine House museum at the Severn Valley Railway Winter Diesel Day on 30th December 2024.
Crewe: New Evero Hybrid unit 805007 is at the head of a ten-coach Chester to Euston Avanti service leaving Platform 11 at Crewe on 6th January 2025. Previously worked by Voyagers, this train only needed diesel power for the short distance from Chester to Crewe and then it was 'pan up' all the way to Euston. 805011 was on the rear.
Glenburnie Junction: 60009 'Union of South Africa' leads the 'Forth Bridge Flyer' south of Lindores Loch in 1985.
Wanstead: North side entrance to Wanstead station, east London, opened on 14th December 1947 as part of the eastern extension of the LU Central Line from Liverpool Street, seen here at 14.09 on Tuesday, 14th January 2025. The station was designed by Dr. Charles Holden (1875-1960), the Underground's Chief Architect between the two world wars and just after, although this is one of his lesser achievements. The station retained its wooden escalators until 2003, many years after the tragedy of the 1987 King's Cross fire.
Yarm [2nd]: 60022 heads over Yarm Viaduct in 1995 with a train of steel empties, probably heading to BSC Redcar.
Clifton and Lowther: Transpennine Express 397006 passes Clifton, south of Penrith, working 1S57 1212 Liverpool Lime Street to Carlisle on the 25th January 2025. The former Eden Valley Railway branched off to the right just below the line of trees and passed through Clifton Moor, Cliburn, Temple Sowerby, Kirkby Thore, Appleby East, Warcop and Musgrave before arriving into Kirkby Stephen. The line closed in 1962, however all stations but Kirkby Thore remain 63 years later.
Strathearn Chemical and Manure Works: East of Crieff, and served by a loop from the Perth line, were the Strathearn Chemical and Manure Works. This view looks east along the former Perth line, with the former Gleneagles line just off to the right. A works building still stands, in other uses.
Ely North Junction: 31308 and 31202 head a Redlands stone service from March to Kennet, a portion off the main train which has been worked from March, in August 1988. I don't recall many 31s working these services at all. The location is near Ely North, known as Queen Adelaide, where there are two level crossings very close together.
