In 1890 Alexander Chaplin & Co relocated from the Cranstonhill Engine Works [2nd] on the north bank of the Clyde to Govan. The new works was at 89 Helen Street on the east side of the road. With the road to the west, Govan station was to the east and a short siding served the rear of the works.
The company was absorbed by Herbert Morris Ltd in 1931.
