Description

This is a single platform station on the Strathspey Railway (Preserved). The station is a superb reconstruction of the station in its former form.

The station's gently curving platform is on the east side of the line. It was extended north in timber. There was a goods yard on the east side of the line, south of the station and approached from the north. A goods shed was at the south end of the platform. There was a signal box, from 1885, located on the north side of the station building. On the west side of the line is a former railway cottage.

The station served Broomhill, Dulnain Bridge and a coach ran to Nethy Bridge (with a better placed station on the Great North of Scotland Railway).

It was closed in 1965 and only the stone platform and station cottage survived.

Rebuilding of the station began in the early 1990s with a new station building being erected. The station re-opened with the extension of the preserved line from Boat of Garten in 2002. A loop was installed to the north of the station to allow locomotives to run round (there was no loop at the original station).

Today this is the northern terminus of the line, but extension north to Grantown-on-Spey West is planned.

Alongside the station is a road bridge over the River Spey, the original version of which was erected by the Inverness and Perth Junction Railway.
