Opened on the Strathspey Railway.
Description
This was the point of divergence for the Strathspey Railway from the Inverness and Perth Junction Railway. It was not a junction in the conventional sense.
The lines ran out alongside each other as two single track railways from Boat of Garten. This gave the appearance of a double track railway. Doing so reduced costs as a signal box was not necessary at the junction. The two lines had different colours of ballast, running side by side.
The east track, for the Strathspey Railway/Great North of Scotland Railway, was originally laid by the Inverness and Perth Junction Railway for the other company.

Racing on parallel linesAlthough not a particularly long length, train crews could indulge in racing between Broomhill Junction and Boat of Garten. That station, and its north signal box, being Highland Railway the winner was a foregone conclusion! |
Chronology Dates
| / /1915 | Aberdeen Railway Agreement with Montrose Town Council to stop up and divert Rosehill Road (just south of Broomhill Junction). A level crossing was closed and road diverted to run along the west side of the line to Broomhill Junction. |
