Description
These carriage sidings were on the east side of the Edinburgh and Glasgow Railway south of Cowlairs West Junction. The Turkey Yard was immediately to the east and, beyond that, the Sighthill Branch (Edinburgh and Glasgow Railway) and the City of Glasgow Union Railway.
Empty coaching stock from Glasgow Queen Street High Level (a mile and a half to the south) would be taken up the Cowlairs Incline to be cleaned and maintained here.
The sidings were partly lifted in 1989 with the reduction in locomotive hauled workings. The sheds remained standing after closure, being removed in 2006.
Prior to the laying in of the carriage sidings the railway company's staff accommodation, a line of cottages known as the Cowlairs Cottages, were located here (replaced by 'The Blocks').
