This quayside is on the north side of the River Clyde between the Glasgow Bridge (to the west) and Victoria Bridge (to the east). Today the quay is not used for ship berthing but was historically, the quay having warehouses and travelling cranes.
In 1911, the berths were used by
- West Highland Carrying Co (to the west coast)
- John Nisbet & Co (general cargo)
- Steel & Bennie Ltd (for Greenock)
The opposite south bank at Carlton Place, at this time, was not used as a quayside.
The banks are linked by the pedestrian suspension bridge.
Broomielaw Quay, the Broomielaw - the important passenger quay, was beyond, to the west.
