Douglas Colliery (1893-1968)

Description

Opened for coking coal by the Coltness Iron Company and 238m deep. This colliery replaced an older set of mines in the area.

The colliery was served by a branch from Ponfeigh, on the Douglas Branch (Caledonian Railway), which connected just east of the station's loop.

The colliery was mothballed in 1967 after a fire, closed the following year.
