Description

This is a two platform station with an original building on the northbound platform.

The station's goods yard was laid out to the north east of the station (opening after the passenger station). It was on the north/west side of the line. Kilbirnie, for which the station was originally named, was somewhat distant being over a mile to the north. The station was renamed Glengarnock on the opening of the Kilbarchan Loop (Glasgow and South Western Railway) with a Kilbirnie [2nd] station better serving the village and the name Glengarnock was used, appropriate for the nearby Glengarnock Iron Works and the immediate area of the station.
