Served by the Industry (without sidings). This rope works was located in Port Glasgow rather than Gourock having relocated 1797. The works manufactured cloth for marine use; rope, canvas and sailcloth.
It was located on either side of the Glasgow, Paisley and Greenock Railway and close to, just west of, Port Glasgow Goods. A long low ropework building (with its own internal ropeworks railway track) ran parallel to, and on the south side of, the railway.
A building (formerly Richardson's Sugar Refinery) survives to the north of the railway, now in use as flats and 'A' listed. South of the line the site is a supermarket.
The works was owned by Sir Archibald Birkmyre of Dalmunzie Lodge.
Sources for closure dates give dates varying between 1970, 1974 and 1976. Canmore suggests 1974.
