This is a 13 span double track viaduct 315 yds long overall crossing the River North Esk, 58 ft over the river.
Stone piers support the 13 girder sections. These were originally timber arches replaced around 1880 as part of general improvements to the Strathmore line and the approach to Aberdeen from the south.
Marykirk station was around a mile and a half to the north of the viaduct and Craigo station was to the south. The Marykirk itself is just to the east.
There was a temporary signal box here 1916-1917.
To the north is a tall C listed double track stone arch bridge over the B874.
