Opened on the North British, Arbroath and Montrose Railway.This shed was on the east side of the northern end of Montrose station and approached from Montrose North Junction, north of the station, junction for Broomfield Junction and the Inverbervie branch. It was a two road shed with a water tank to its north east and turntable to the south by the buffers. The coaling shed was on its west side.
A headshunt to the north of the shed, parallel to the line to Broomfield Junction and reached by reversing from the shed, gave access to a gas works.
From 1881 the North British Railway operated the Montrose and Bervie Railway to Inverbervie. A branch was built to Montrose Harbour in 1886.
The Inverbervie branch closed to passengers in 1951. From 1952, the shed took over the duties of Brechin Shed [2nd]. In 1963 Broomfield Junction to Dubton Junction closed. The Inverbervie branch closed completely in 1966. Montrose [CR], reached via Broomfield Junction, and Montrose Harbour were the last closures nearby in 1967. The shed closed in 1967.
The shed location is now the site of a supermarket.
