Opened on the Aberdeen Railway. This shed was immediately south of Montrose [CR] passenger station, between the station and the goods yard. It was approached from the east. It was a two road timber building opened around 1849. There was a small turntable on the southern of the two sidings entering the building. A coal shed and cistern were to the west of the building on a continuation of the turntable line.
A larger turntable, provided later, was on the north side of the station throat, east of the shed.
In 1865 the Montrose and Bervie Railway opened with the Scottish North Eastern Railway (Caledonian Railway from 1866) providing locomotives. The North British Railway took over operation of the branch in 1881 (although briefly between 1897 to 1898 both companies provided services over the Inverbervie line).
Montrose [CR] station closed to passengers in 1934.
The shed burned down in May 1939 and was officially closed later that year. Locomotives were relocated to Brechin Shed [2nd].
