Name and dates

Methil Power Station (1965-1999)

Station code: MPS National Rail
Served by the Kirkland Yard and Leven Dock to Methil Line Widening (North British Railway).

Description

This coal slurry burning power station was located on the south bank of the River Leven at Innerleven. The site has been cleared.

The power station was built on largely vacant land to the north of Methil Dock No 3. Approach was from Methil East Junction. The power station had a small yard of sidings on the south side. It was designed to burn coal slurry provided by the washery at Wellesley Colliery to the south (worked north from Methil Yard before running round at Kirkland Yard to reach the power station). The power station also burned 'Comrie Filtercake' from Comrie Colliery. Later the power station used slurry from Westfield Opencast and from Killoch Washery.

It was mothballed around 1999, Westfield Opencast mining having ceased in 1998. It was demolished in 2010-11.

Local

The sidings were home to Jeffray Wotherspoon's Class 26 for some time. Jeffray Wotherspoon - 26040
