Chronology Dates
| / /1879 | Sunderland Station (North Eastern Railway) New line from Ryhope Grange Junction to new Sunderland central station and from Fawcett Street opened. Hendon and Fawcett Street stations closed. Line extended north to cross the River Wear to connect at Monkwearmouth. The new station had two island platforms with arched overall roof (which was destroyed in World War II). |
