The workshops of the Newbattle Colliery were located at the Lady Victoria Colliery, on the east side of the site running down the A7.
These were the workshops for the whole of the Newbattle complex owned by the Lothian Coal Co Ltd.
An 0-4-0ST locomotive was built here (No 1) in 1927 (possibly without permission using an Andrew Barclay, Sons & Co design). A 0-4-2ST, No 5 of 1908, was rebuilt in 1933.
The National Coal Board used the site for their main Midlothian workshops too.
The site closed with the Lady Victoria Colliery in 1981.
