Peebles Hydro is a hotel located in the east of Peebles, between Glentress Forest on Ven Law (to the north) and the River Tweed (to the south). The hotel was opened 1881. The original French Renaissance style building burned down in 1905 and was replaced.
The former Galashiels, Innerleithen and Peebles Railway (North British Railway) ran through the grounds to the south of the hotel. This line opened in 1864 and extended the original 1855 Peebles Railway to Galashiels [1st] on the Edinburgh and Hawick Railway (North British Railway) better known as the Waverley Route.
Although the line closed in 1962 and has since been landscaped a very fine lattice footbridge still crosses what was a railway cutting.
