This was a two platform station located in a deep cutting. The street level building remains here, in use as a house.
Platforms were linked with a footbridge, located on the south side of the road overbridge. This was replaced with long ramps from the road bridge.
The goods yard was approached by what appeared to be a steep incline - it was in fact level, it was the railway which was climbing from north to south. The yard was on the east side of the railway. The signal box was on the east side of the line where the goods yard line met the main line. It was replaced in 1930 and closed in 1965.
To the south, at the bridge over the Cakemuir Burn, was a trailing siding on the southbound line, probably for derailing runaways from the summit to the south.
The nearest stations were Fushiebridge (north) and Heriot (south).
Today this, Tynehead Junction, is the southern end of the double track section from Fushiebridge Junction, just south of Gorebridge which is the nearest station.
