This iron works was located north west of Wishaw [1st] station, on the north side of the line. The works was located on the Wishaw Estate Railway, approached from the north the lines fanned out. Estate railway lines passed under the main line to reach the Wishaw Iron and Steel Works (later Wishaw Steel Works).
There was a bank of three blast furnaces on a nw-se alignment. To the north, about a mile by private railway, was Wishaw Ironstone Pit, leading directly to the fan of lines. To the west was Berryhill Coal Pit No 1.
The works closed in 1861 (ironstone pit worked out?) but was bought by the Glasgow Iron Co in 1864. A fourth furnace was added and later a fifth and sixth.
Closed 1930. The site was cleared and used for a gasholder. It is now housing.
The Wishaw Cement Works was to the north, using slag from the Wishaw Iron Works until its closure followed by other local sources of slag.
