Description

This was at the junction for the Wishaw Iron Works. This was one of the entries into the Wishaw Estate Railway. The works was served by that line from the north east.

A northbound loop ran north west from here to Shieldmuir Junction. On the southbound line there was a very short loop. Two exchange sidings were laid west from this loop and the connection to the estate railway ran to the north east.

The Wishaw Steel Works was on the south west side of the line. This was linked to the Wishaw Iron Works with a private line, part of the Wishaw Estate Railway, which passed under the main line. The steel works was also served by a siding on the south side of the main line approached from the Wishaw Iron Works Signal Box.

The signal box was in the 'V' of the junction. This was replaced in 1908 in a similar position. The exchange yard was enlarged to now have several long sidings.

The box closed in 1970.

The main line remains open.

Today this is the site of Shieldmuir South Junction, the southern connection to the 1998 Royal Mail Scottish Distribution Centre.
