Name and dates

Yoker Distillery (1770-1927)

Description

This distillery was located on the Yoker Burn where it was crossed by Dumbarton Road. It was founded by John Harvey and remained in the Harvey family for many years. The family was also associated with the Dundashill Distillery and Bruichladdich Distillery. It changed hands several times latterly before closure in 1927 after which the warehousing remained in use and was destroyed by bombing in the Second World War.

Some buildings survived for many years, but none remain.

The warehouses on either side of Dumbarton Road were served by railway.

On the north side there was a siding from the Glasgow, Yoker and Clydebank Railway (a siding laid in probably after distillery closure).

On the south side a long siding from the Glasgow, Yoker and Clydebank Railway passed under Dumbarton Road. This was later severed north of the road and connected to the Lanarkshire and Dumbartonshire Railway.

Harvey's Dock, to the south by Yoker Lodge, was associated with the distillery. The lodge site obliterated by the Rothesay Dock marshalling yard.
