Infrastructure Minister, Nichola Mallon has cut the sod on the new Belfast Transport Hub marking the start of the main works. The project will deliver a modern, world-class integrated transport hub to enhance local and international connectivity with bus, coach and rail links across Northern Ireland and beyond. The new multi-modal Belfast Transport Hub will facilitate greater capacity with an increase to 26 bus stands, 8 railway platforms, cycle and taxi provision for enhanced connectivity, comfort and capacity encouraging greener, active travel for a healthier city. There will be provision for more than 300 cycle parking spaces. The Belfast Transport Hub is situated on Translink property near the current Europa Buscentre and Gt Victoria Street Stations.

The hotel, targeted an estimated 33 times, is as much an icon of the city as the Titanic. When the hotel, which was built on the site of the former Great Northern Railway Station on Great Victoria Street, opened in 1971 it quickly became a base for international journalists who were in Belfast to cover the Troubles.
