With initial support from the Department for Transports First of a Kind Programme, Varamis Rail has leased from Eversholt Rail a 35-year-old former passenger-carrying four-car electric multiple-unit, refurbished internally with seats removed to accommodate small consignments, to provide a proof-of-concept service running five nights a week in both directions between two locations convenient for the motorway network, Mossend near Glasgow and Birmingham International Station.

Network Rail and Varamis Rail, the UK's newest train operator, have worked together to launch an innovative, zero carbon freight service. Targeted at express parcels and third-party delivery companies, it will primarily deal with next day delivery of consumer goods.

Eversholt Rail has reached agreement with Varamis Rail to lease a Class 321 Swift Express Freight train to deliver light goods at high speed across the UK. Varamis will be running services 5 nights a week from Birmingham to Scotland for a major parcel carrier.
Class 321 Swift Express Freight provides all electric traction delivering an environmentally friendly alternative to HGVs predominantly used in the logistics sector. The ex-passenger trains have been repurposed for freight use with high capacity and 100mph services able to access rail terminals, ports and city centres across the rail network.
