Stirling: CR 123 waits at Stirling on 10 May 1958 at the head of a special. In the background stands V3 no 67672 off Dunfermline shed, with a train for the S&D line.
Perth: Preserved ex-CR 123 stands at Perth on 10 May 1958 with an afternoon excursion to Dundee.
Buchanan Street: 'Now then, now then, no kissing the locomotive please...' A couple of steam fans seem to be getting a bit too 'up close and personal' at Buchanan Street on 10 May 1958 as CR 123 waits to take out a special.
Perth: CR 123 preparing to leave Perth station on 10 May 1958 with an excursion to Dundee.
Stirling: CR 123 following arrival at Stirling with a special in 1958.
Motherwell Shed: Standard 9F 2-10-0 92019 was the only engine in steam at Motherwell depot on 10th May 1967, and made its presence felt by laying a smokescreen whilst filling up at the water column alongside the shed. The loco was about to head for Larbert to take charge of the ICI Soda Ash train to Wallerscote in Cheshire. This was one of the last regular steam workings north of the border.
Braidhurst Viaduct: Standard 9F 2-10-0 92019 heads tender first across Braidhurst viaduct, on its way from Motherwell MPD to Larbert to take charge of the ICI Soda Ash train to Wallerscote in Cheshire. This was one of the last regular steam workings north of the border, on 10th May 1967.
Grantshouse: 4472 Flying Scotsman photographed heading north on the ECML near Grantshouse on 10 May 1969 with a Flying Scotsman Enterprises 'Positioning Special'.
Lathen: With just a few weeks to go before the last 012 oil-fired Pacifics based at Rheine were withdrawn, 012 075 roars through the cutting north of Lathen (one of the few distinctive topographical features on the Emsland line) in May 1975 with train E3260, 07:50 Norddeich - Rheine.
Lathen: The date is 10th May 1975 and the location is just south of Lathen, where southbound trains were faced with just about the only significant adverse gradient between Emden and Rheine. Oil-fired 2-10-0 No. 043 167 and 2-8-2 No. 042 083 are approaching the summit (which if I remember correctly was in a cutting just before the level crossing with the then B70 main road). The normal motive power for these 4,000t iron-ore trains was two 2-10-0s, but the use of a class 042 was by no means unusual, although perhaps the 2-8-2 would normally have acted as pilot.
Lathen: Oil-fired 2-10-0 No. 043 606 heads south through the cutting at Lathen on the Rheine - Emden line in 1975. The line was famous for the double-headed trains conveying imported iron ore from the docks at Emden but the bogie hoppers depicted here appear to be empty and had probably conveyed export coal to Emden on their outward journey.
Holgate Junction: Not my preferred spot for photographing 46229 Duchess of Hamilton leaving York with the second 'Limited Edition' trip round the Harrogate circuit on 10 May 1980, but having been evicted with other photographers by the BTP from the west side of the line at Holgate Junction, it was the best available at short notice.
Wortley Junction: On its first outing since restoration to mainline running condition, No. 46229 Duchess of Hamilton swings right at Wortley Junction, Leeds and heads for Harrogate on the 'Limited Edition' special.
Holgate Junction: Brush Type 2 No 31 166 and an unidentified classmate bring a train of empty bogie bolster and open low-sided bogie wagons off the York station avoiding line at Holgate Junction in 1980. 'Duchess of Hamilton' can just about be discerned in the background waiting to take out the second of two trips it made that day round the Leeds - Harrogate circuit, its first outing following restoration to main-line running condition.
Kingsknowe: NB 0-6-0 673 Maude and LNER 4-4-0 246 Morayshire passing Kingsknowe station with the S.L.O.A. North Briton railtour on 10th May 1981. This was the second day of a two day tour and this leg ran from Larbert into Edinburgh, round the suburban line and then out to Mossend via Shotts. The previous day A4 60009 had failed while hauling the tour.
Kingsknowe: 40160 about to pass through Kingsknowe with a freight on on a misty morning in May 1981 heading east.

Newport-on-Tay East: View along East Station Place, Newport-on-Tay, in May 2005. The former Newport-on-Tay East station building (closed in May 1969) stands out from the surrounding houses.
Haltwhistle: The viaduct which carried the Alston branch over the South Tyne shortly after it left Haltwhistle. View south in May 2006 towards Alston, 30 years after the branch was closed by BR.
Haltwhistle: Quiet please - photographer at work! Under the South Tyne viaduct, 10 May 2006.
Newcastle Airport: Tyne and Wear Metro unit 4061 stands at Newcastle Airport on 10 May 2006 with a service to Park Lane. The destination, one stop on from Sunderland, lies directly below a large and busy bus station.
Haltwhistle: View over the South Tyne viaduct from Haltwhistle looking towards Alston in May 2006. Haltwhistle station and the junction with the N&C are behind the camera.
Callerton Parkway: A Tyne & Wear Metro service leaves Callerton Parkway station via the level crossing on 10 May 2006. The train has just over half a mile to run to the terminus at Newcastle Airport.
Callerton Parkway: The warning klaxon and flashing lights bring road traffic to a halt at Callerton Parkway open level crossing on 10 May 2006. The approaching Tyne & Wear Metro service is about to make its first stop after leaving Newcastle Aiport. This Metro station is unique in being located in an area of low population density serving little in the way of business or commercial premises. The focus here is on the car user, with Park & Ride and long term Airport Parking facilities adjacent to the station.
Langley: The trackbed of the Allendale branch (closed 1950) looking north east towards Hexham on a May morning in 2006, with Langley station directly behind the camera see image [[29641]]. [Ref query 9 March 2018]
Newcastle Airport: A Tyne & Wear Metro service recently arrived at Newcastle Airport on 10 May 2006. The train is already preparing to depart on its next journey destined for Sunderland's large Park Lane bus Interchange.
Haltwhistle: The imposing signal box at Haltwhistle on 10 May 2006 - photographed from the footpath leading up to the station from the South Tyne walkway.
Langley: Platform view at Langley on the Allendale branch, looking towards Hexham in May 2006. The former station, hidden away in the South Tyne valley, is now a garden, crafts and walking centre. The tea-room at the end of the platform is known as 'The Leaning Shed Cafe' for some reason.
Hexham: The old water tower at Hexham, still standing in the abandoned yard to the east of the station. View north towards the running lines on a wet day in May 2006. [Ref query 1002]
Hexham: Railway remains at Hexham in May 2006, looking west from the site of the former goods yard towards the station (which is obscured by the elevated water tank and base). The well known signal box is behind the camera, as once was the 2-road locomotive shed.
Newcastle Airport: View from Metro service leaving Newcastle airport in May 2006
Callerton Parkway: A Tyne & Wear Metro service heading for Newcastle Airport in May 2006 on the climb west from Bank Foot up to Callerton Parkway.
Hexham: A tamper leaves the sidings and runs under the SB gantry at Hexham on 10 May 2006 heading east towards Newcastle.
Langley: A surviving gem on the long closed 12 mile Allendale branch, which left the Newcastle and Carlisle line just west of Hexham, is the former station at Langley. The site was in use as a garden centre, gallery and cafe in May 2006. The station lost its passenger service in 1930 with the branch closing completely in 1950.
Haltwhistle: Detail showing the complex stonework under the skew arches of the South Tyne viaduct at Haltwhistle in May 2006.
Callerton Parkway: With the last traces of morning mist hanging over the Ouseburn Valley, a city-bound Tyne and Wear Metro service leaves Callerton Parkway on 10 May 2006 . Unit 4051 is on the downhill run towards its next stop at Bank Foot with a Newcastle Airport - Park Lane working.

Glasgow Central: Departing GNER service for Kings Cross passes a Class 334 making its way into Glasgow Central.
Galashiels [1st]: Approach to Galashiels from Tweedbank on 10 May 2007. The new station will be beyond the new bridge currently under construction over Station Brae. View north from the trackbed alongside the new ASDA car park.
Cambus: Community Safety Forum sign at Cambus for a meeting on the 14th in advance of the imminent re-opening.
Salwick: The long approach ramp to Salwick leads to a very basic station with a sparse service these days. 150146, on its way to Blackpool South, forms one of only three trains a day in each direction. View towards Kirkham and Wesham through the heat haze on this former four track main line.
Salwick: Salwick No.2 cabin is the fringe box with Preston signalling centre. A Lancashire and Yorkshire design it operates the colour light signals between here and Kirkham, an emergency crossover and access to a disused siding associated with the adjacent nuclear fuel facility. Viewed through the station overbridge towards Preston.
Jerviston Junction [1st]: A view taken from the bing a short distance down the out of use branch from Jerviston Junction (New) to the former BSC Ravenscraig Number 3 Sidings. The works were on the skyline above the track and have been completely demolished as have the BSC Clydesdale works which were out of shot to the left. (Photograph taken to compare with that in RAIL 590 page 70 by C P Whitbread - although the view here continues to the right to show the still standing Dalzell Steelworks. Due to tree growth the angle is not quite the same and the railings on the bridge have been removed!)
The location is interesting as the bridge betrays that this was the site of a junction - the left side is a girder and the right masonary. The route to Ravenscraig is the newer one (originally slightly different alignment of junction serving Cleekhimin Colliery then closed then re-aligned and re-opened as an approach to Dalzell and Lanarkshire steelworks) and the lifted line which ran to the right was the original Wishaw and Coltness Railway alignment running south to Motherwell and beyond over a large and now demolished viaduct.
Arkleston Junction: An empty 66 hauled train draws to a stop in the loops at Arkleston Junction, ready to be overtaken, just east of Paisley Gilmour Street. Tree growth now covers the former Renfrew line to the right and abortive line to Barrhead to the left.
Plean Junction: Depot at Plean Junction on the west side of the line to the north of the overbridge. Plean Junction box is to be phased out.
Uphall: The north side of Uphall station viewed from the footpath which passes under the east end of the station and the M8. The ground is being prepared for a second platform to go with the second track.
Braidhurst Viaduct: View looking west to the Braidhurst Viaduct on the Motherwell Deviation. The deviation runs from Jerviston Junction (New) south to Lesmahagow Junction and allowed northbound mineral trains coming off the Lesmahagow Lines (which served many collieries) to run north to various ironworks in Coatbridge without the need to reverse twice in the Motherwell area. This also allowed a single Motherwell station serving all lines to be established at Lesmahagow Junction. Both line and station remain open today.
Salwick: Rare occurence at the ghost station. 150146 calls at Salwick, between Preston and Kirkham, on a Colne to Blackpool South service on 10th May 2008. This was one of only 3 (out of 80) trains in each direction to do so. The trackbed of the former fast lines is on the far side of the island platform.
Cambus: The new operational level crossing at Cambus seen looking north on a wet 10 May 2008.
Balornock: When the M80 was built (partly along the course of The Switchback) the Garnkirk and Glasgow Railway, which had enjoyed a straight course for over 150 years, was diverted. The original course is to the left and the new route over an impressively massive bridge is to the right. Balornock/St Rollox shed was to the left. View looks east.
Bathgate Central Junction: To the left a train enters the Bathgate terminus (which is on roughly the location of the original Bathgate terminus) and to the right the stub of the closed line west to Bathgate Upper, Airdrie and Glasgow. For some odd reason the stub has recently been cut back. But things are going to change ...
Paisley St James: Westbound service entering Paisley St James. The junction for Glasgow Airport will be behind the train, just shy of the current station with the line running off to the left.
Hillington East: What had two, then four, now has two again and will soon have three? View east from Hillington East showing the new gantries for overhead wires in connection with the additional line. Those masts in the foreground will be removed. An eastbound train approaches Cardonald in the distance.
Larbert: You turn your head for five minutes and Network Rail build a Training Centre....the new £4m development which will provide training for NR maintenance and engineering staff is due to be opened officially in June.
Larbert Junction: Shorn. Larbert Junction without sempahores. The box is closed but survives as it is given over to the Training Centre. Coloured lights prevail.
Caton: Caton station closed in 1960, six years before the line itself, and this picture is of the site, looking towards Hornby. The extended station house can be seen although the platforms have been removed. The goods shed (now a church - see picture 20472) is just beyond the former level crossing where a stone wall has now been built across the trackbed. The cycle path skirts the trees on the left at this point before rejoining the old line towards Claughton.
Caton: Trackbed view west from the easterly Crook O Lune bridge. Immediately beyond the over bridge the westerly bridge can be seen showing how close the two are, although the River Lune flows for half a mile round The Crook between the two bridges.
Kirkby Stephen East: Here is that very sad sight, a former junction station, now completely disconnected. However, the trackbed is walkable in parts, there are restored locomotives and wagons on site; and although this view is hardly pristine, the site is at least tidier than it was a few years ago. The 0-2-2 Astra class seen to the left is mercifully no longer our transport.
Ingleton (NWR): Ingleton had two stations, one on either side of its end-on junction between the MR and the LNWR. The site of one of them is now a community centre, adjacent to a rather nice viaduct, seen here in May 2009.
Finnieston East Junction: A westbound EMU heads for Partick on the urban viaduct alongside the Clydeside Expressway at Queens Dock on 10 May 2009.
Prestongrange [Tram]: A little to the east of Prestongrange Industrial Museum is a long abandoned stretch of roadway containing tram tracks. This is part of the Portobello and Musselburgh Tramway extension to Port Seton, opened in 1909 and closed in 1928. View west in May 2009 with Arthur's Seat on the horizon.
Blindwells Opencast Disposal Site: A southbound National Express East Coast service passes the remains of the sidings that led to the former opencast coal loading point at Blindwells on 10 May 2009. Coal from Blindwells was used primarily by the nearby Cockenzie power station.
Plymouth: A rather quiet Plymouth viewed from the overbridge to the east.
Aberdour: 170 421 arrives at Aberdour with a Glenrothes service on 10 May 2010.
Dalston Junction: View south from the new Dalston Junction station on 9 May 2010 along what was once the route to Broad Street. This was the first day of full service on what is now the new East London Line extension. The station has four platforms, the inner two terminate at buffer stops, while the outer two veer west to eventually join the North London Line at Western Junction see image [[5172]].
East London Line Extension: This is a view of the route map inside a train on the new portion of the East London Line.
Kirkcaldy: 67 025 pulls into Kirkcaldy with the evening Outer Circle service on 10 May 2010
Aberdour: The replacement of the road bridge a few years ago made things easier for motorists but more awkward for rail snappers. How thoughtless. On 10 May 170 458 calls with a Glenrothes to Edinburgh service
Aberdour: An 'East Coast' 125 nears Aberdour on 10 May with the morning Leeds - Aberdeen service, running between its scheduled stops at Inverkeithing and Kirkcaldy. The fact that 17 minutes is allowed for these 13 miles is, I'm afraid, down to the Victorians, since the line was not engineered for speed. It has an unlikely summit at Dalgety, only short straights, plus 20/25mph restrictions through Burntisland station and Kinghorn tunnel.
Dunblane: DRS 66418 heads north through Dunblane station on 10 May with the 4A13 Grangemouth - Aberdeen Intermodal freight. The train has just passed 170430 standing at platform 1 about to depart on a sevice to Glasgow Queen Street.
Dunblane Junction: 170 473 threads its way towards platform 1 at Dunblane after reversing off the down line on 10 May. To the left is the stub of the Callander line disappearing into the long grass. Made me wonder how many mechanical 'boxes still have point rodding as opposed to motors.....
Cardross: You know, that sounds very like a steam engine approaching. Surely not? Nope, it's two.
Completely unprepared but relatively successful shot of 61994 and 44871 heading south by the Clyde.
Edinburgh Waverley: Voyager unit 220023 sits under North Bridge after arrival on platform 8 at Waverley coupled to sister unit 220029 on the 07.03 ex Birmingham New Street Cross Country east coast route service.

Edinburgh Waverley: Odd one out times two. 170434 for Dundee in Saltire livery and 170458 for Glasgow Queen Street become blocked in at Waverley west end, shortly after mid-day on 10 May 2011, by new arrivals 156442 also in Saltire livery and SPT liveried 170475. By 2018 the two non Saltire liveried class 170s 170458 & 170475 had moved south of the border to be operated by Northern Trains
Edinburgh Waverley: Homegoing passengers starting to gather on the west end bay platforms at Waverley on 10 May, with a pair of class 334 electric units waiting to take out the 17.07 to Milngavie and 158 and 170 diesel units forming other outgoing services.
Edinburgh Waverley: Virgin Voyager 221107 stands at the east end of Waverley at lunch-time on 10 May following arrival with the 08.20 service from Birmingham New Street. DBS ScotRail liveried 90024 lays over in the nearby east facing bay.
Aberystwyth: 158823 stands at Aberystwyth on 10 May 2012 with the 11.25 arrival from Birmingham International.
Aberystwyth: The well weathered running in board at the seldom used country end of the operational platform at Aberystwyth Station in May 2012. View towards the now multi-user former Cambrian Railways station building.
Aberystwyth: The former Cambrian Railways, GWR, and BR, Aberystwyth steam shed, now occupied by the Vale of Rheidol Railway, is seen beyond the stations former bay platform in May 2012, with the recent platform line and run round loop on the right. The under construction new VoR stabling and heavy maintenance facility can be seen to the right of the steam shed. Nearest the camera on the flat wagon is the main frame for the line's No7 Owain Glyndwr which is awaiting completion of this new facility in order to allow rebuilding to be started.
Aberystwyth: Vale of Rheidol's Great Western Railway liveried VoR Class 2-6-2T No 8 Llywelyn awaits its 14.00 departure time from Aberystwyth on 10 May for the run up to Devils Bridge.

Aberystwyth: 158823, seen reflected in the glazing of the store located on and behind the former platform 3, prepares to depart from what is now platform 1 at Aberystwyth with the 11.30 service to Birmingham International. Note the old steam shed standing beyond the platform end.
Challow: A passing HST bound for Paddington on 10 May 2012 photographed running into the up loop at Challow on the GW main line. It would appear there was a problem further east - in the time I was there all eastbound trains first stopped short of Challow and then either proceeded down the loop or headed to Didcot at 10mph. (Given it was a foul day, I gave up after 40 minutes and went home!)
Aberystwyth: The frames of Vale of Rheidol No 7 Owain Glyndwr sit on a flat wagon alongside the former standard gauge platform 1 at Aberystwyth on 10 May 2012. The cargo is awaiting completion of the new Vale of Rheidol Railway heavy maintenance works before rebuilding can start in earnest.

Kensington Olympia: A view across the tracks at Kensington Olympia on 10 May 2014. The large exhibition hall is on the left and between that and the northbound platform is the terminal platform face for underground services.
Beckenham Hill: Beckenham Hill, on the Catford Loop in south-east London, looking north on 10th May 2014. This line and station were latecomers to London's railway geography, not opening until 1st July 1892. This view is seen through the upstairs side windows of preserved RML 2760, the very last traditional Routemaster bus built for London Transport in 1968, returning from Elmers End to Catford Bus Garage during the latter's Open Day.
Stechford: It's not every day that you see an Arriva Trains Wales service in Birmingham. 158.834 passes through a wet Stechford non-stop as it works from Birmingham International to Maccyncleth, where it splits to serve Aberystwyth and Pwllheli see image [[37262]].
Kearsley: The temporary crossover to cater for single line working through Farnworth Tunnel is seen here on 10 May 2015. The down platform of Kearsley station stands in the background.
Yatton: The up side building at Yatton Station, between Bristol Temple Meads and Bridgwater, looking approx. south west on a Sunday afternoon in May. A near identical building exists on the down side platform. West of Yatton were the junctions for the Cheddar Valley line, which turned south from a bay platform on the down side, and for the Clevedon branch which turned north from a bay platform on this side. Part of the canopy for the latter platform can be seen on the extreme right. See image [[51843]]. My wife can be seen by the Disco awaiting me opening it, after we had put our two sons and family back on the train to return to Wakefield and York respectively after attending her brothers 50th wedding anniversary bash the day before. We set off later for a few days in Somerset and Dorset, with views from this to follow on Railscot, before heading back to Yorkshire.
Gorebridge: Platform construction work in progress at the south end of Gorebridge station on 10 May 2015. See image [[51246]]
Congresbury: Looking north along what is now cycle route 26 on the trackbed of the former Yatton to Witham Cheddar Valley line in May 2015. Note the almost complete surviving platform running alongside the cycle track for some 100m from just south of the A370 Station Road. A replica station totem has been sited across the trackbed from the south end platform ramp.
Kearsley: The main road is quite a way below the platforms at Kearsley with a few more than 39 steps to reach the platform. If you miss the notice that the station is closed until October then you could have a wasted journey as the rail replacement coach picks up alongside the road. It is also interesting that on 10 May 2015 the station sign still refers to 'British Rail'.
King's Gate Junction: The points controlling the changeover from double to single line operation at Kings Gate on the Borders Railway just south of the Edinburgh City By-pass. As can be seen in this view north west on 10 May 2015 the whole area has recently been cleaned up and landscaped. The white notice reads Kings Gate Junction.
Kearsley: Looking up Stoneclough Road in Kearsley under the railway bridge on 10 May 2015. The station entrance is beyond the bridge on the right. There has been some significant bracing applied to the retaining walls on this side of the bridge.
Farnworth Tunnel: A view north west towards Farnworth Tunnel on 10 May 2015 showing the first stages of the engineering work to enlarge the right hand tunnel to allow for double track and electrification. The smaller tunnel on the left (normally for Bolton bound services) is currently set up for bi-directional working.
Newcraighall South Junction: A hive of activity in the area around Newcraighall South Junction on Sunday morning 10 May 2015. View is south, showing work taking place in several locations at the northern end of the Borders Railway, not least on the new bridge that will eventually carry the link from Whitehill Road into the recycling plant.
Newtongrange: Road entrance to Newtongrange station and car park from the northbound lane of the A7 on Sunday 10 May 2015. The area in the foreground looks a nap for an early car park extension.
Farnworth: A view of Farnworth station towards the tunnels (and Salford Crescent) on 10 May 2015 as the platform on the left is being removed in order to realign the approach to the tunnel. Although the line was closed over the weekend it is open Monday to Friday with all services using the down line (on the right) while work continues on the left hand bore. The station is however closed throughout the work which is scheduled to last until October.
Burnden: An engineers train being worked by Freightliner 66530 waits in the Up Passenger Loop at Burnden, just south of Bolton, on 10 May 2015.

Farnworth: The transformation of Farnworth station is underway on 10 May 2015 with the up platform being removed to allow the realignment of the tracks when the larger tunnel is reopened later in 2015.
Yatton: The now roofless footbridge at the north end of Yatton Station seen from the upside approach road on 10 May 2015. Note the half landings incorporated on each side of the bridge.
Congresbury: Looking south as the Cheddar Valley trackbed footpath and cycleway continue to the right at the point, just south of Congresbury Station, where the Wrington Vale Light Railway branch turned off the main line. The branch ran to the left of the spindly silver birch at the centre top of the picture. See image [[51244]]
Congresbury: Looking west along Dolemoor Lane in Congresbury village across two former level crossings in close proximity. That on the crest nearest the camera was on the Wrington Vale Light Railway branch, whilst that in the distance was on the Cheddar Valley line. The cyclist is on the trackbed of the latter, now the combined national cycle route 26 and footpath.
Eskbank: A Tweedbank service pulls into Eskbank on 10/05/2016. A belting day, a smell of blossom in the air and only a few minutes walk from a Costa Belgian chocolate brownie. Other coffee shops and cakes are available. But they're not as good.
Oxton: Oxton, looking south towards Lauder. The dirt driveway occupies the trackbed, which forms the driveway to a house on the trackbed.
Wooler: Wooler goods shed, a substantial building which looks to be well maintained. Now used by an antique dealer and photographed on 10th May 2017.

Appleby: LMS 8F 2-8-0 48151 has the signal to leave Appleby with an excursion from Kidderminster to Carlisle on 10th May 2017. The shunting arm on the bracket signal gives access to Appleby yard, and is still technically the link to the closed/mothballed North Eastern (Warcop) line.
Oxton: Station House at Oxton on the Lauder Light Railway on 10th May 2017. This view looks towards Fountainhall from the level crossing along the vehicle driveway that occupies the old trackbed. It's nice to see the cast-iron trespass sign still in place See image [[15511]].
Appleby: Colas 60080 thunders through Appleby with the Carlisle to Chirk timber train on 10th May 2017. This train has a path to run either via the S&C or over Shap. I nearly missed it as I was browsing in the station bookshop but heard it approach and managed a shot.
Shielfield Level Crossing: Looking towards Oxton from the level crossing next to Shielfield cottage. It appears that a gas main now occupies the old formation.
Newtongrange: 170455 arrives at Newtongrange on 10 May 2018 with the 0930 Tweedbank - Edinburgh Waverley.
Falahill Summit: After rounding the curve at Falahill on 10 May 2018, the ScotRail 0855 Edinburgh - Tweedbank continues its journey south. At this point the train is approaching the underpass which will take it below the A7. See [[56265]].
Falahill Summit: A southbound service on the Borders Railway passes to the east of Falahill Village, between Tynehead and Heriot, on the morning of 10 May 2018. The road on the left runs to a junction with the A7 at the south end of the village.

La Rochelle: Charente-Maritime is a well known area for cycle touring and cycling in general. Here is a local train from the departmental capital with quite a few cycle spaces many in use for commuters but probably some also used by tourists.
Tomatin: A3 Pacific No.60103 Flying Scotsman and B1 61306 Mayflower, accelerate away from Tomatin on the last part of the journey to Inverness.
Perth: A small group of enthusiasts witnesses the early arrival in Perth of 'Flying Scotsman' and 'Mayflower' with the Highlands & Islands tour from Edinburgh to Inverness on 10th May 2019.
La Rochelle: The train crew chat with a member of the station staff before departure of the DMU service to the south. A very French scene as they all currently work for the national operator: are they discussing the future of SNCF and whether the service will be contracted out to a different operator?
Cardross: Carnforth Steamtown to Fort William stock movement, heading for Cardross beneath threatening skies on 10th May 2019.
Kingussie: In the pouring rain,A3 Pacific No.60103 'Flying Scotsman' and B1 61306 'Mayflower', stop for water at Kingussie.
Ridgmont: Acting on information received, m'lud, I detected 230004 on the 16.09 to Bedford at the aforementioned station. Further detective work yielded the intelligence that the 16.20 to Bletchley would be a 153, so I fled the scene to get home ASAP (notice the stationary truck on the M1 in the background; it was a long journey). I overheard a passenger complaining that an 06.20 service had been cancelled - the 230s may be in the 'bedding in' phase. Notice the shiny metal window frame where a centre door pair has been removed.
High Morlaggan Railway Cottage: A Glasgow-Oban Sprinter seen above Loch Long near Morlaggan.

High Morlaggan Railway Cottage: Light and shade. In a brief spell of light between showers an Oban-Glasgow service heads south by Loch Long in May 2019.
High Morlaggan Railway Cottage: A Carnforth Steamtown to Fort William stock movement above Loch Long in May 2019. Morlaggan is below, Coillessan on the west bank and Cnoc Coinnich in the background.

Haymarket: This charming vinyl tribute to NHS workers by Samantha Hayden is on display at Haymarket station. The Evening News reports that Samantha 'used a Crieut digital cutting machine which she had bought to create accessories for her wedding, originally planned for new month. Although the wedding has now been postponed, Samatha has put the machine to good use, making the vinyl tribute.'
Pleasington: LSL's HST Midland Pullman set is seen heading west at not so pleasant Pleasington on 10 May 2021. The set had run from Crewe to Carlisle via the S&C and this was the return trip back to Crewe. The sun had been out but dark clouds arrived, obscured the sun and dumped a load of water on those out of doors with a few cracks of thunder to boot. There are paths in for Monday to Friday this week so perhaps I will be luckier later in the week.
Sunnyside Junction: Rail services have resumed after the route through Coatbridge Sunnyside was closed following the incident last Friday. Network Rail re-opened the railway through Coatbridge Sunnyside this morning following a train derailment last week. Normal service has resumed after engineers worked around-the-clock throughout the weekend to rerail the train and repair significant damage to the track. Our team replaced four half switches - moveable sections of track which move trains from one line to another - while specialist 'tamping' equipment was also used to re-align other parts of the track. [View shows the crossover west of the junction. The closed and disconnected line, latterly serving Gunnie cement, is at the top of the view. The junction for Whifflet is out of shot to the right. -RS]
Scottish Maritime Museum: 1872 built 'M V Kyles' on the slip at the Scottish Maritime Museum in Irvine on 10th May 2022. She had been taken out of the water for restoration work but was expected to be afloat again in the summer. We were allowed on board and the accommodation was pretty primitive.
Skagen: The splendid terminus at Skagen, although it possesses all its railway features including working clocks, is not presently in railway use and entrance to the platform is round either side of the building. The station is sited close to the town centre and enjoys a regular service along the 25 mile single line to Fredrikshaven.
Skagen: Denmark's Thurso. Skagen (pronounced Skayn) lies near the northern tip of the Jutland peninsula. The town is linked to the main Danish rail network by the independent Skagenbanen, a 25 mile line to Fredrikshaven. An hourly service is provided throughout the day increasing to half hourly at peak times. A DMU waits to depart from Skagen on 10th May 2022.
Skagen: This tantalising railway line runs from a yard at Skagen station, down between the town centre houses and shops, to the docks. Unfortunately, although most of the line and infrastructure is still in place, it has been disconnected near the docks and Denmark's largest fishing port is no longer rail served.
Skagen: I would love to have seen a freight train negotiating the branch to Skagen Harbour, between the houses and cafes, but although virtually intact it is disused and seems to have been for some time. This May 2022 view, on a grey and wet day, looks towards the docks near Skagen passenger station, which still has a regular passenger service. Immediately behind the camera was a run round loop alongside the platforms, but again no longer in use.
Skagen: Although bus shelters have appeared on many UK station platforms this one at Skagen has been put directly over the disused railway tracks at the docks. The shelter is used for a shuttle bus service when there is a cruise liner in the port. The disconnected line in the foreground was the link, between the Skagen houses, to the sidings at Skagen station yard.
