Derby Works: Ex-LMS Co-Co Diesel no 10000 stored at Derby Works on 1 November 1964.
Derby Works: 1Co-Co1 Diesel no 10202 stored at Derby Works in November 1964. Although the locomotive appeared after nationalisation it was a Southern Railway design and the influence of Mr Bulleid can be clearly seen.
Eastfield Shed: B1 61029 'Chamois' at Eastfield, on 1st November 1966. An unremarkable shot, but one that I'm nevertheless quite sentimental about, as it turned out to be the last occasion (in BR days) on which I saw a locomotive in steam at the depot. Not only that but, unusually for the time, the nameplates were still in place. 61029 had been a pretty frequent sight around Central Scotland in the fifties and sixties, and I first saw it when I was about ten years old. Evidently I pontificated to my brother that it was called 'Shamoys', a pronunciation that I was never subsequently allowed to forget!
Buchanan Street Tunnel: During the final week of services from Glasgow's Buchanan St station, the 11.35 to Thornton emerges from the Buchanan St tunnel behind B1 61347.
Buchanan Street Tunnel East Signal Box: Most of Glasgow’s Sighthill was a building site in 1966, and a wet overcast morning was not doing anything to enhance the view of B1 61347 as it made its way towards St Rollox, after emerging from the Buchanan Street tunnel. But, it was the final week before Buchanan Street’s closure so photography had to be undertaken no matter what. The train was the 11.35 to Thornton on 1st November 1966.
Saltley: Sulzer Type 2 (class 25) no D7512 on Saltley Shed in November 1969. Sister locomotive no D7604 is attached to one of the short lived brake tenders, designed for use when working non or partially fitted freights.
Leicester Midland MPD: BRCW Type 2 no D5377 on the turntable in the then still relatively new roundhouse at Leicester Midland shed on Saturday 1st November 1969. This locomotive ended its working life as 27030 based at Glasgow's Eastfield shed, from which it was eventually withdrawn in April 1986. Ironically its final resting place was back in Leicester, not far from this location, at Vic Berry's scrapyard, where it was cut up in October 1987.
Birmingham New Street: The 10.27 Manchester Piccadilly - London Euston stands in the concrete cavern that is Birmingham New Street station on 1 November 1969. Class 85 AC electric locomotive no E3090 is in charge.
Saltley: Class 31 no D5852 standing immediately behind D7512 in the shed yard at Saltley in November 1969. 8V66 was the code for the 0320 Normanby Park - Cardiff Tidal Sidings (albeit a few years later than the date of this photograph), so 5852 being an Immingham loco at the time, would fit with such a working.
Leicester Midland MPD: G2 0-8-0 no 49448 stored in the roundhouse at Leicester Midland shed on 1 November 1969 with class O4 no 63601 standing in the background. Note this is actually the preserved 49395 masquerading as 49448 on this occasion. With thanks to Vic Smith.

The Standard 4 completed a 10 year overhaul in 2014, and, as of April 2020, the Black 5 is about to have a start made on its own 10 year overhaul; after being sold earlier this year, by the NYMR, to the owner of USAC S160 No 2253 Omaha.

The old station closed to passenger traffic in April 1954 and had since been converted to serve as self-catering holiday accommodation. Note the 'Waiting Rooms' (plural) above the door, referring to the public area from which the photograph was taken, together with a second private waiting area off to the left, once reserved for use by family and associates of local landowner Lord Bolton (now used as the main bedroom).
Dent: A Leeds - Carlisle train arrives at Dent in November 2004, with station platforms and buildings looking immaculate.

The real 67345 was cut up at Darlington at the end of 1955.
Penallt Viaduct: The WVR was carried across the River Wye between Wales and England on Penallt Viaduct, running between Penallt Halt on the Monmouthshire bank (left) and Redbrook station on the Gloucestershire side. These were two of the closest stations on the network being only a quarter of a mile apart - albeit located in different countries. The old viaduct, seen here in November 2005, is now in use as a public path.
Magaliesburg: The signal box at Magaliesburg is located on the platform, allowing this view of the lever frame. Magaliesburg is a rael life version of Radiator Springs in the film Cars - it is bypassed by the main highway, and hence has become a 'living museum'. For acontrast in style, see image [[55261]].

Nowadays the site is shared with other companies and IBM is no longer directly involved in manufacturing. Current IBM activities here include the provision of 24 hour multilingual worldwide customer contact/support services and related e-business. While the station now appears in public timetables it is still intended for use by those working within the compound.
Hincaster Junction: Horse Creep? As boats were legged through the Hincaster canal tunnel the horses had to cross the railway and go over the hill on a path that is still open. This low bridge takes the path under the Lancaster and Carlisle Railway/WCML although the floor has built up and it would be tricky to get a large animal through these days. Map Reference SD 513851
