Built from the former Limerick and Ennis Railway just west of the Shannon Viaduct to Ardnacrusha where a hydro power station was under construction, Ardnacrusha Hydro Power Station. A narrow gauge system, dating from 1925, connected Limerick Docks to Ardnacrusha to O'Briensbridge, around 60 miles of track within the system.

Closed to regular passenger services. Sunday specials to Claremorris continue into the 1980s.

Re-opened for Thursday only services between Limerick and Ennis.
12/04/1988Limerick and Ennis Railway
Becomes a two days a week service between Limerick and Ennis.
16/05/1994Limerick and Ennis Railway
Re-opens to passengers between Limerick and Ennis, six days a week.
