South Gyle

Photograph taken at South Gyle opening day on 9 May 1985. It is inconceivable that a notice like this would be handwritten today. The list of stations is a bit shorter than it would be now: no Dalgety Bay or Dunfermline QM. Cardenden and Lochgelly dont get a code. In these pre Fife Circle (and Glenrothes with Thornton) days they had a peak hours only service. The machine produced insubstantial tickets rather like the bus tickets of the time. I dont remember it lasting long, but the supports remain, as did, until today (27 June 2008) a small notice showing the station codes which was attached to that lamppost. The lamppost has just been replaced. The notice must have puzzled many of the hordes of commuters who passed it every day, years after the ticket machine had gone. See image 26763
