Lancaster Power Station

The power station sidings in Lancaster were on either side of the Lancaster Canal embankment seen in the background and connected via a line under the aqueduct as in image 23412. Here, on the north side of the canal amid a pile of ash, are Barclay 0-6-0F Lancaster 1572/1917 and Barclay 0-4-0F 1950/1928. The smaller fireless loco worked here from 1966 until closure in 1976 and then shunted flask wagons at Heysham nuclear power station but that work is now carried out by a Sentinel diesel locomotive. It is now preserved at the Ribble Steam Railway See image 27587.
