Wanton Walls Junction

Among the confusion of lines crossing this area was a freight-only route from Niddrie West Junction to the ECML facing east, joining it beyond the current Musselburgh station. It ran side-by-side with other lines for most of it's length, being unaccompanied only through the village of Newcraighall. The trackbed of that section is pictured here, looking south east over Newcraighall Road in May 1995 towards Wanton Walls Junction, where it was joined by the Lothian Lines branch from Niddrie North. The line was superseded in the 1960s by a less direct route through the new Millerhill Yard to Monktonhall Junction.
