Burntisland [1st]

The once grand 1847 Burntisland terminus of the former Edinburgh & Northern Railway that once formed a key part of the rail and ferry route between Edinburgh and Dundee. Ferries from here linked with the Edinburgh, Leith and Newhaven Railway at Granton, which in turn provided a rail connection to the centre of Edinburgh at Canal Street (now Waverley) while at the northern end of the route the Tayport - Broughty Ferry crossing provided a connection with the Dundee and Arbroath Railway. The station became redundant on the opening of the Forth Bridge when a new through station was built just to the west on a new alignment. Photographed in July 2002.
