Nateby

These tank traps, presumably around 75 years old, sit alongside the Lancaster Canal near Nateby Hall. The upper picture shows the point where the trap crosses a stream and old rails are embedded upright to maintain the defence. Either side of the stream are the concrete blocks that climb up the hill and the last block is actually on the towpath of the canal. Behind the camera in the lower picture there is also a well preserved lime kiln from the days when lime was brought by canal from Kendal for use on local fields. Map Ref SD475461.
