Whelley Viaduct

This view of one arch of the Whelley Viaduct was taken from another disused railway, a mineral line that dropped down from Haigh Junction on the Boars Head to Adlington line to serve a dye works and the Haigh Foundry. The goods branch was active from 1860 until 1919. The viaduct carried its last passenger trains in 1973 and closed completely three years later.
