Royton

A March 2024 view from the eastern boundary of what was once the site of Royton station, which closed in 1966, looking towards the buffers. The land in the foreground was the goods yard and the houses running from the left of the picture towards the centre follow the line of the station's single platform. The branch was just over a mile long but the platform could accommodate eight coaches as, from the 1864 opening, it was intended that excursion trains would run from here.
