This shot shows the new track leaving the south end of the original shed. Whilst the steel sleepers may seem a bit out of place the underlying sand and gravel is a genuine part of the site heritage. It was this kind of material which was used to level up the ground surface and form the track bed when the railway arrived in Aberdeen in the late 1840s. It was also used as track ballast here and on other railways throughout the area until the end of the nineteenth century.
