Opened on the Aberdeen Railway. The original Ferryhill Shed was in the 'V' of the junction between the Aberdeen Railway and the Deeside Railway with an approach from the north. It was a two road shed south of Polmuir Road and directly to the west of Polmuir House.
The Ferryhill Railway Heritage Trust is based in a locomotive shed, with a turntable, at this site.
The shed was improved and expanded greatly. There was an extension in 1860, 1880 and 1882. From a site directly alongside the Aberdeen Railway it expanded west with an large fan of sidings and new buildings in the 'V' of the junction.
A second shed, Ferryhill shed [2nd] was commenced alongside and to the west in 1896, jointly paid for by the Caledonian Railway and North British Railway. It opened in 1908.
Ferryhill MPD closed in 1988 (officially the 6th of December 1987). Remaining sidings at the north end of the site are sometimes used for stabling. The remaining building is the extended original 1850 building, complete with a turntable.
The Aberdeen Model Railway Club is also based here.
Duthie Park is to the south west of the shed.
