This was a two platform station. The main station building was on the southbound platform, the village side of the station. The buildings were replaced with new larger buildings on both platforms. These were of Caledonian Railway turn of the century design.
There was a small goods yard to the north, east side of the line, approached from the south. The signal box was on the west side of the line opposite the goods yard.
The station closed to passengers in 1956 and the box closed in 1975.
To the south the Cove Quarries and Black Hill Quarries were on either side of the railway. The Aberdeen Fish Meal Factory opened here on the east side of the line. It was served by one of a pair of sidings on the east side, approached from the south. The eastern of the two sidings was a headshunt for the works.
