Britannia, summit of the line between Bacup and Rochdale, was also at 967ft the highest point on the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway network. In this view towards Bacup in February 2025 the bus shelter, ironically, roughly marks the location of the old summit. Britannia station was just a little further on, beyond the filled in overbridge, and only five feet lower. Around six of the eight and a half miles between Bacup and Rochdale can be walked or cycled on the old railway.
