Huntingtower Branch Ground Frame

View east where the private Huntingtower Bleachfield siding took off to the north east (curving off to the left) and the 'main line' continued straight ahead. The lines have been ploughed out here. The bleachfield branch also served Pitcairnfield Bleach Works and would later have a tight curve off to the left for the Royal Naval Store Depot Almondbank. The bleachfield branch, opened in 1911, had a 500v DC system using overhead wires. The Naval Store dated from the Second World War and a small exchange yard laid out on the private line. The modern gate roughly equates to the site of the wooden gate which formerly closed across the private siding when not in use. Sandwiched between it and the line was the distant signal for Huntingtower Siding, a little to the east.
