Nawton: A short section of trackbed remains east of Nawton station, partly in a shallow cutting and then on a low embankment up to where the solum has been obliterated across the section running towards the former Stoney Cross rail overbridge that crossed the A170 en route to Kirkbymoorside. This view looks south in February 2021, from a short by-passed undulating section of road at the edge of the village, to the most easterly section of extant trackbed.

Lowton: Lowton Junction, at the north end of the Parkside triangle, seen from half way along the curve from Newton-le-Willows Junction in February 2021. Lowton station was just beyond the junction and served both lines before closure in 1949. This chord, the short stretch of L&M to Earlestown and the link back to the WCML from Earlestown were all electrified around 1972 but it was nearly fifty years later that the other sides of the triangle and the Liverpool and Manchester route caught up.

Edinburgh Waverley: The driver of the Down 'Devon Scot' has what would now be seen as a socially distanced chat (or bellow) with someone on the platform, just prior to shutting the door on him. In 1997 HSTs were already 20 years old; who would have thought that a generation after that they would still be pulling out of Platform 19?
