Helmsley: The surviving Helmsley signal box has had some attention in recent times, and the operating floor window area has been boarded over with large ply sheets. View looking at the door to the locking room, which would normally be under the access stairs. The lower part of the door to the operating floor can be seen above, together with the rotting remnant of the stairs top platform.

Stroud Green: View from Stroud Green viaduct on the GNR's former Northern Heights line, closed in 1954 and now a footpath. This view looks east along the London Overground Gospel Oak to Barking line, which passes beneath the viaduct in a short tunnel, on 31st March 2021. On the left is the single track spur that connects with the GNR main line just to the south of Harringay station and which is normally only used by freight and empty stock workings. However, I was able to traverse this spur on 4th May 2019 on a UK Railtours' excursion that originated, rather unusually, at London Victoria to the Midland Railway Centre at Butterley in Derbyshire. The train did call at Alexandra Palace (formerly Wood Green) which is close to where I live and had I boarded the train there would have given me an extra hour in bed but that would have meant missing a ride over this short section of line in north London not normally used by passengers. So an early start to Victoria it had to be.

McDonald Road [Tram]: As part of the tram works the road has been excavated revealing the top of the arches of the railway bridge. Interesting there's a channel cut in the arches, presumably for the drains. The view is to the Top of the walk. [[Leith Walk]] station was off to the right.

Stourbridge Town: The Stourbridge branch was in the news in early 2021 as it was temporarily closed to be relaid and a Class 56 ventured down to Stourbridge Town with an autoballaster train. These bullhead rails seen in front of the usual Parry People Mover in 2011 are therefore no more but it is good to see investment in this shortest of short lines.

Cawton Gate Crossing: View looking west along a recently excavated section of what was slightly raised trackbed on the section of line running between Hovingham Spa station and Cawton Gate crossing, with the keepers cottages at Cawton Gate just beyond the trees in the distance. This section is being dug out by Hovingham Estates to convert it to arable land and join up the land on either side. A re-routed permissive path is being created to the right of the arable land.

Stroud Green: View from Stroud Green viaduct on the former GNR Northern Heights line, now a footpath, with on the left the old Stroud Green station building, now a community centre, on 31st March 2021. The line closed to passengers in 1954, the project to electrify and convert it into a branch of the London Underground Northern Line never being completed. The bus that is swinging round from Ferme Park Road onto Stapleton Hall Road to pass beneath the viaduct is T 208 on route W3 to Finsbury Park station, buses being the only way to get to the populous suburbs of Stroud Green, Crouch End and Muswell Hill for the past 67 years.

Cairnhill Junction: This was the site of Cairnhill Junction, Airdrie, as seen in 1997. Ahead the line ran to the Caledonian's Airdrie station and to the right was the branch to Newhouse. This was the south west junction of a triangle of lines. The recent works were to create access to lift the line to Imperial Steel Works and west to Whifflet (the opposite direction to this view). Prior to the lifting there was a buffer stop under the bridge the photograph was taken from. The trackbed is now a footpath.

Rannoch: 37404, then named 'Ben Cruachan', enters Rannoch with a northbound service in 1987. Many of the 37/4s survive in service but this one was cut up at Booths, Rotherham in January 2002.
