Introduction

/ /	Edinburgh Trams Contractor Bilfinger Berger.
/10/2001	Edinburgh Trams Edinburgh Council requests funding of £8.32M from the Scottish Executive for the development of the tram system from Edinburgh to Leith, work to begin in 2002 and completion in 2009. A truck depot at Constitution Street in Leith is proposed as the tram depot.
28/01/2004	Edinburgh Trams The Scottish Parliament publishes the bills for the first two lines of the tramway, allowing property to be purchased by the council. Balfour Beatty given the contract to build the £7.5M West Edinburgh Guided Busway.
/01/2005	Edinburgh Trams Network Rail objects to plan to cross Haymarket station. This plan would have involved loss of the car park and not allowed station expansion. Further west it suggested expansion of Haymarket Depot would be impossible.
/12/2005	Edinburgh Trams West Edinburgh Guided Busway between Stenhouse and Broomhouse out of use. Repairs required to concrete roadway.
/04/2006	Edinburgh Trams Route 2: St Andrews Square - Princes Street - Haymarket - South Gyle - Edinburgh Airport - Newbridge receives royal assent.
/05/2006	Edinburgh Trams Route 1: St Andrews Square - Leith Walk - Leith - Granton - Haymarket - St Andrews Square receives Royal Assent.
/09/2006	Edinburgh Trams Enabling works begin.
/03/2007	Edinburgh Trams Utility works begin.
/12/2007	Edinburgh Trams In advance of awarding contracts, costs are thought to be likely to be £47M below the £545M estimate.
25/04/2010	Edinburgh Trams First tram delivered and placed on display on Princes Street. It was open to the public from the 28th. Trams are 43 metres long with space for 250 passengers.
/12/2011	Edinburgh Trams York Place [Tram] added to the planned network.
31/05/2014	Edinburgh Trams Tram line opened from Edinburgh Airport [Tram] to York Place [Tram].
/09/2018	Edinburgh Trams Pedestrian who did not hear a warning horn is killed by tram.
